We have an announcement from the Habs. It's done. The Montreal Canadiens have acquired center Phillip Danault in exchange for a draft pick.
Canadiens confirm Danault acquisition
Here is the official statement from the Canadiens.
Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has acquired forward Phillip Danault from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a second-round pick in 2026, previously acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This will mark his second stint in Montreal as the forward played for the Habs from 2015 to 2021.

It is hard not to like this trade from Kent Hughes and the Canadiens point of view.
Not only do we now have confirmation that Danault goes to the Habs in this trade for a second-round pick, but we can also confirm that no salary percentage was retained by the Kings in this transaction.
The Montreal Canadiens confirm the LA Kings didn't retain any of Danault's $5.5M cap hit. The cap gymnastics are going to be interesting when everyone returns.
Right now, this can be solved by sending down two of Beck, Davidson and Engstrom. But when Dach/Guhle/Laine/Newhook return, it'll get complicated from a roster perspective.
