Martin St-Louis made a decision today that caused quite a surprise regarding the identity of his starting goaltender for tonight's game against Toronto.
Even though it's a Saturday night at the Bell Centre against the Toronto Maple Leafs, usually the kind of game reserved for the Canadiens' number-one goaltender, it will be
Jakub Dobes (and not
Samuel Montembeault) who starts in net tonight.
It's significant, because it suggests Montembeault may have officially lost his status as the Canadiens' number-one goaltender.
Jakub Dobes gets the start tonight for the Montreal Canadiens
If Dobes puts together a strong performance, things could get very interesting in the Canadiens' crease.
Here is the official confirmation, as reported by Renaud Lavoie:
And also note that the Canadiens' head coach has just confirmed the news in his pregame press conference: it will indeed be Dobes in goal tonight.
Samuel Montembeault, 29, has a 4-5-1 record this season, with a goals-against average of 3.71 and a save percentage of .852.
Jakub Dobes, 24, has a 6-2-2 record this season, with a goals-against average of 2.96 and a save percentage of .892.
