Martin St-Louis' absence last week was linked to his son's 18th birthday
We have an update regarding the absence of Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis last week.
First, it was announced earlier this week that he missed Canadiens practice due to a family commitment.
Well, we now have new information on that front!
Martin St-Louis once again shows just how incredible of a family man he is
It was Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels who provided more precise details Monday night while appearing on Tony Marinaro's podcast.
"The Sportsnet journalist spoke with St-Louis, who told him that his son Mason was celebrating his 18th birthday."

On Friday, Martin St-Louis was indeed not with his players in Ottawa. At the time, the Canadiens referred to it as a family commitment.
That left room for all kinds of interpretations, because we know how quickly things can escalate around here.
But this time, the story is simpler, warmer, and honestly easy to understand.
Last night, on the air with Tony Marinaro, Engels lifted the veil after speaking with the coach.
St-Louis explained to him that his son Mason was celebrating his 18th birthday. He didn't want to miss that, and that is extremely understandable!
After Thursday's game against the Buffalo Sabres, the coach stayed in the area.
While the team headed to Ottawa, he boarded a plane back home to Connecticut.
On Friday, he celebrated the birthday with his son's group of friends, far from the NHL circus.
The following day, he still picked things right back up as if nothing had happened.
St-Louis was back in time for Saturday morning meetings, ahead of the game against the Ottawa Senators.
It sums up his reality well: family first, but the job is never far from reach.
After the game, while the players returned to Montreal, he once again headed back to Connecticut. He wanted to see his son play on Sunday.
The game was ultimately canceled, but the intention says it all.
On Monday, St-Louis was back in Brossard, ready to dive back into the condensed schedule.
We love it! What a man, Martin St-Louis!
