The Montreal Canadiens held their practice at 1 p.m. in Ottawa, followed by a scheduled press conference.
Very quickly, news began circulating around the group. St-Louis simply was not on the ice with his assistants.
The real reason is much simpler than the rumors suggested. Martin St-Louis was attending a family event today.
During a road trip, that happens, and above all, it deserves respect.
In the locker room, the day was still an important one. Patrik Laine, Jake Evans, and Kirby Dach were back at practice in regular jerseys.
When three players return at the same time, it changes the atmosphere. It also forces the organization to think ahead to the next game.
The reassuring part is that his absence is temporary.
He is expected to be behind the bench tomorrow, so the group quickly returns to its normal structure.
At a time when the Habs need points, that's good news, and it seems to rule out any possibility of bad news for the coach's family, which is obviously the most important thing.
The only thing to remember is simple: Martin St-Louis was at a family event, and he will be back tomorrow.
Details to follow!
