It's so sad to see just how little respect Lane Hutson gets, despite his incredible performances on the ice.
On Wednesday, during a press conference, he was asked whether he had any discussions with Team USA in the fall, with Bill Guerin or people from management.
His answer was direct, no beating around the bush, and it perfectly sums up his current mindset.
Basically, Hutson said no, not really.
He just wants to play, period, and he added that they have very good players over there, so he's not worried about them.
It's a great answer.
His mindset is clear: his focus is on his team, his day-to-day, on the Montreal Canadiens. However, the other aspect that's drawing attention is the fact that he wasn't even called.
Notably, Cole Caufield did receive a call from Team USA executives, who informed him that he unfortunately wasn't selected. It remains a questionable decision, but at least Caufield was called.
Team USA executives didn't even bother to make a quick phone call to Lane Hutson
When you look at his most recent full season, you understand why everyone wants to see him everywhere, all the time.
In 2024-2025, Hutson played 82 games, with 6 goals, 60 assists, and 66 points, along with 34 penalty minutes. He also led rookies in power-play points with 26, and his average ice time was 22:44.
His 66 points also set a franchise record for a rookie defenseman, and his 60 assists allowed him to tie an NHL record for a rookie defenseman. In the end, he won the Calder Trophy, which puts a big red circle around his name.
This season, Hutson has been even more impressive, recording 44 points in 44 games while posting a +17 rating.
How could he have been so easily ignored by Team USA?
Reporter: "Did you have any conversation with Team USA during the fall, with Bill Guerin or management?"
Lane Hutson: "Umm no not really. I just wanna play and that's it. But like I said, they got great players. I'm sure they'll do just fine."

At the very least, they could have given him a quick phone call.
