We've just received another confirmation regarding rugged forward Kiefer Sherwood and the Montreal Canadiens.

Kiefer Sherwood is indeed still linked to the Canadiens, and not just for the sake of chatter.
David Pagnotta reignited the file right in the middle of the trade market. He states that the Montreal Canadiens are officially among the interested teams. He also adds that the Tampa Bay Lightning are not in the picture at this time.
"Several teams remain interested in Kiefer Sherwood, including the Canadiens, Stars, Wild, Bruins and Red Wings. The Lightning were considered a team with interest, but David Pagnotta reported they are not currently in the mix." - The Fourth Period

Confirmed: Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens are still interested in Kiefer Sherwood

What stands out is that this lines up with another report that's been public since December. Pierre LeBrun mentioned that the Canadiens contacted the Canucks about Sherwood.
We're far from an official announcement, but the interest is very real. In the same piece, Pagnotta reminds that Sherwood is in the final year of a two-year contract. He also mentions that Sherwood could become a free agent next summer, which is fueling speculation in Vancouver.
And when multiple teams get involved, it quickly turns into a bidding war.
From a production standpoint, Sherwood is coming off a season that changed his offensive profile. In 2024-25, he played 78 games and scored 19 goals. He also added 21 assists for 40 points, all career highs.
In Montreal, the debate mainly revolves around the price. The idea of a second-round pick has been floated, but everything depends on the context.
If this turns into a rental, Kent Hughes cannot get dragged into that, at least in my humble opinion.
