It was only a matter of time, but it's now been confirmed for the young Montreal Canadiens defenseman, Lane Hutson.
The National Hockey League has just given him some big news: he has officially been named one of the three finalists for the Calder Trophy.
The Calder Trophy is, of course, awarded to the player who has demonstrated exceptional qualities during his first season as a player in the National Hockey League.
In other words, it's the NHL's Rookie of the Year award.
Lane Hutson is officially nominated as a finalist for the Calder Trophy
According to many, he is absolutely the favorite to win this individual honor.
Let's recall the two main updated criteria to be eligible for the Calder Trophy:
First, the player must be under 26 years old on September 15 of the given year.
Second, the player must not have played more than 25 games in a previous season.
There are other more specific rules, but these are the two most important.
At 21 years old, Lane Hutson recorded an incredible 66 points in 82 games this season, in his first NHL campaign, breaking multiple Montreal Canadiens franchise records while also improving his defensive play.
With this Calder nomination, Hutson gives himself even more leverage with Kent Hughes to convince him to sign a long-term deal.
Hutson's wish has been granted! He is now one of the three rookies of the year in the NHL!
Now, will his other wish come true soon?
Will he sign his long-awaited long-term contract extension in Montreal this summer?
One thing's for sure, he deserves everything that's happening to him right now!
