Kent Hughes Showed a Promising Canadiens Prospect the Door and He Might Be Regretting It
Nearly two years ago, Kent Hughes showed the door to a promising Montreal Canadiens goaltending prospect. Today, that prospect is making serious noise across the NHL.
I've never been a fan of Kent Hughes' decision, though it's easy to say that in hindsight, but Dichow always showed promise.
However, right from his arrival as GM of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes quickly added several goaltenders to his prospect pool.
All of them are promising young netminders, so Frederik Dichow fell quite low in the hierarchy.
Still, he's now made a name for himself in recent weeks.
A Historic World Championship for Goalie Frederik Dichow
He's been playing in Sweden's top league since the 2021-22 season.
In addition to representing Denmark at the 2022 Olympics, he was sensational at the most recent World Championship.
One has to wonder if Kent Hughes regrets not keeping his rights.
"What a night for Frederik Dichow.
Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, never signed.
Still, he always seemed to be the future of Denmark's national team in goal.
Expect him to be their Olympic starter in 2030."
- Steven Ellis
Dichow posted a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .917 during the just-concluded tournament.
