According to the excellent journalist Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, the Canadiens' general manager has decided to let the young forward Rhett Pitlick go.
So, it's over for him in Montreal.
Pitlick will be free as a bird and can sign with any team of his choice starting today. We sincerely wish him the best of luck in the future.
Pitlick, 23, is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward who was drafted in the 5th round by the Montreal Canadiens in 2019.
He was indeed selected by the previous regime, that of Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins.
Pitlick had just experienced (in 2023-2024) his best season ever in the NCAA, collecting a solid 36 points in 39 games, including 19 goals, with the University of Minnesota.
Therefore, it is a somewhat surprising decision, but at the same time, Montreal has so many prospects!
The 23-year-old forward should generate interest in the National Hockey League and should have his chance with a new team.
To think that Trevor Timmins saw in him a possible future Jake Guentzel...
Details will follow.
