Juraj Slafkovsky vs Jack Hughes: a huge development has just been released and the Montreal Canadiens will be encouraged by these statistics
When Juraj Slafkovsky reached 82 games in the NHL, a comparison was made with the first overall pick of the 2019 draft, Jack Hughes. At the time, we were surprised to see that, at that point, both had virtually the same statistics after reaching this milestone. However, Hughes had an advantage in many aspects, including points.
About a month later, now that the CH's number 20 has played 92 games in the big league, this same comparison was made again. We see that he has considerably caught up. So much so that he is now at the same stage as Hughes, in terms of points after the same number of games.
While these statistics are encouraging, it is, however, important to put everything into perspective. The two players have a completely different style. Slafkovsky is what you call a power forward, while Hughes is a player whose playing style is based on offensive skills. The size of the two players is also very different, something that hindered Hughes's early NHL days as the physical adaptation to the game was difficult.
Nevertheless, if Slafkovsky has managed to reach the level of production of Hughes, who is an offensive player, it is most encouraging. Especially if he further develops his physical and defensive side, aspects that the Devils' forward does not have!
Seeing how the young Slovak progresses and especially how he has been playing for the past few weeks, it is hoped that consistency will be present. If he can prove that he can continue in this manner until the end of the season, we will be able to say that he has finally arrived!
