Jeff Gorton Hints at Who Could Replace Cayden Primeau in Latest Interview
As we mentioned earlier today, the Montreal Canadiens' Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, Jeff Gorton, was interviewed on RDS.
An interview that aired last night.
One part that caught our attention was when Jeff Gorton was asked about the players who impressed the management in recent weeks and during the 2024 training camp.
The very first name Jeff Gorton mentioned was
Jakub Dobes.
«I believe Dobes played very well, and he showed us what things could look like eventually.» - Jeff Gorton, who also mentioned
Emil Heineman and
Oliver Kapanen afterward.
Among the veterans, Gorton talked about
Jake Evans.
Clearly, the Canadiens' management has a lot of affection for Dobes. They see him as a potential future goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, and considering their goal to win as many games as possible this season, it seems they wouldn't hesitate to replace Primeau with the 6-foot-5 Czech goaltender if needed.
It's something to keep in mind in case Cayden Primeau has a poor start to the season.
In your opinion, which of these two goaltenders has a brighter future with the Montreal Canadiens?
Dobes, 23 years old, was a fifth-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2020.
Primeau, 25 years old, was a seventh-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2017.
It's always good to have some internal competition, and while
Samuel Montembeault seems to have secured the number one goaltender spot for good, there are still possibilities for the backup role.
