Since Ivan Demidov arrived with the Montreal Canadiens, many fans and experts have been calling for a change involving him. Much like with Lane Hutson at the beginning of the season, everyone quickly wanted to see Demidov on the top power play unit.
Recently, following an injury to
Patrik Laine, Martin St-Louis decided to give the young player a chance, placing Demidov on the top power play unit.
The results were nearly immediate.
A few days after that decision, Demidov was finally able to share his personal opinion.
Was he ready? Was that what he wanted too?
Ivan Demidov finally comments on Martin St-Louis' decision to immediately place him on the top power play unit during the NHL playoffs
He admitted the decision significantly boosted his confidence on the ice.
Ivan Demidov today on his role as a member of the Canadiens' top power play unit:

So Demidov was ready for the challenge and doesn't feel it was rushed at all.
Some believe Patrik Laine may not return to the Canadiens next season, and if that turns out to be true, Demidov could spend the entire 2025-26 season on Martin St-Louis' top power play unit alongside
Juraj Slafkovsky,
Cole Caufield,
Nick Suzuki, and Lane Hutson.
To be continued - but the early results are very promising.
And it's just getting started!
