'I could have done a better job': St-Louis explains his surprising self-critique after loss to the Avalanche
The head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, had a tough time accepting his team's heavy loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
As a reminder, last Saturday the Canadiens were beaten 7-2 by Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and company - a clear blowout. The good news for Montreal is that they remain third in the Atlantic Division and the only Canadian team currently holding a playoff spot after the Senators' loss to Dallas.
The game against the Ottawa Senators should therefore be very interesting.
Martin St-Louis identifies a culprit for the Canadiens' recent loss: himself!
That is indeed what he said on Monday, and it's not something you hear often.
"So there was no lies when he explained why things completely went off the rails in Colorado on Saturday, in that 7-2 drubbing at the hands of the Nordiques-Avalanche.

Now that Martin St-Louis has had time to review video and rewatch the game on television, his conclusions are clear.
"In terms of game preparation, I could have done a better job so we wouldn't be as passive, and I take some of that on myself. We talked about it today - we didn't have our legs. Against that kind of speed, you have to be aggressive."
"I asked the guys to defend in numbers rather than taking away time and space, and that was probably a mistake. You have to learn from mistakes, and I need to learn that we're a better team when we take away time and space."

Martin St-Louis will therefore have the chance to bounce back tonight at 7 p.m., when the Ottawa Senators visit the Bell Centre.
We already know that Samuel Montembeault will get the start in goal.
