We have an update on goaltender Cayden Primeau following his placement on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens.
As Chris Johnston confirms, Primeau has cleared waivers and will report to the Laval Rocket.
Cayden Primeau's new team is in Laval
He therefore remains within the organization, which is obviously good news.
Primeau will join Connor Hughes, and together they will form the new goaltending tandem for the Laval Rocket.
See the official confirmation:
Knowing that he was not claimed on waivers, the Canadiens organization made the wise decision to assign him to the farm team.
Cayden Primeau, 25 years old, has a record of 2-3-1 this season, with a goals-against average of 4.70 and a save percentage of .836.
He earns $890,000 per year until 2025.
During his most recent stint with the Laval Rocket in the 2022-23 season, he posted a record of 19 wins, 15 losses, and 6 overtime losses.
He maintained a goals-against average of 3.04 and a save percentage of .909.
Primeau will now have to compete with Connor Hughes for starts in Laval and, as Anthony Marcotte noted, most importantly focus on regaining his confidence.
Cayden Primeau will head to the Laval Rocket as he was not claimed on waivers. He will aim to rebuild his confidence in the AHL in an environment he knows very well.
Further details to follow.
