The Montreal Canadiens organization has confirmed the makeup of its defensive corps for the matchup against the Colorado Avalanche.
At least, barring a major last-minute change.
The official statement released by the team leaves no doubt about head coach Martin St-Louis’ intentions.
Defenseman Jayden Struble clearly appears outside the three regular pairings on the lineup board.

That indicates he will be scratched for a third straight game.
On the other hand, Arber Xhekaj keeps his spot in the starting lineup. The physical defenseman will once again be paired with veteran Alexandre Carrier on the third unit.
The other two duos remain unchanged: Mike Matheson will skate with Noah Dobson, while Lane Hutson reunites with Kaiden Guhle.

The decision to maintain the status quo on the blue line suggests the coaching staff liked the defensive stability shown in the win against Vegas.
Struble, who had been a regular for much of the season, will therefore have to remain patient.
It’s also worth noting that the Canadiens will celebrate history this Thursday night, as the visitors will wear the Quebec Nordiques uniform for the occasion.
In goal, as previously announced, Jakub Dobes will be tasked with slowing down Colorado’s attack.
Samuel Montembeault will serve as the backup goaltender.
Also as reported earlier, Patrik Laine, Joe Veleno, and Samuel Blais will remain the extra forwards, barring a last-minute surprise.
The lineup therefore appears finalized for a crucial game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Projected lineup for tonight:
Caufield-Suzuki-Texier
Slafkovsky-Kapanen-Demidov
Bolduc-Evans-Dach
Anderson-Danault-Gallagher
Matheson-Dobson
