Jeff Gorton took advantage of his platform yesterday at noon to inadvertently clarify the immediate future of young goaltender Jacob Fowler within the organization.

While explaining the restructuring of the goaltending department, the executive vice president addressed the vacancy created within the farm team.
The promotion of Marco Marciano to the big club leaves the Laval Rocket without a goaltending coach for the time being.
Gorton pointed out that he has not yet made a decision on a replacement, but that the matter is a priority.
The executive specified that this is a crucial hire, as this person will be called upon to work daily with Jacob Fowler in Laval.

So yes, this confirms that Jacob Fowler will remain with the Laval Rocket.
This statement does indeed appear to put an end to speculation that the young prospect would be recalled by the Canadiens any time soon.
The organization clearly indicates that the development of its prized asset will go through the American Hockey League for now.

The priority remains Jacob Fowler’s development in Laval

Gorton’s comments confirm that management does not want to rush things with its third-round pick (69th overall) in 2023.
Priyanta Emrith reported that Gorton and his team will get to work immediately to find the right fit to support Fowler.
If the plan were to graduate Fowler to Montreal in the short term, the urgency to find him a mentor in Laval would be less pressing.
The Canadiens clearly prefer to stabilize the situation in goal in Montreal with the Dobes–Montembeault duo while ensuring optimal support for Fowler down the lineup.
It is a cautious approach aimed at protecting the long-term development of the goaltender many see as the future of the position.
Fans will therefore need to be patient before seeing the Rocket’s number one make the definitive jump to the NHL.
