This is the kind of small update fans often look forward to after a major trade, especially those eager to get their hands on new jerseys and merchandise.
It's official! Noah Dobson has chosen his new jersey number with the Canadiens, and it's a number change for him.
The Canadiens Announce a Number Change for Noah Dobson
As he mentioned during his first press conference after the trade that sent him from
the New York Islanders to the Montreal Canadiens, Dobson had no intention of taking the number of a current Habs player, even though the option was available.
He has therefore decided to change his jersey number, and with the Habs, he will officially wear number 53.
We're looking forward to seeing the Canadiens' new number 53 in action.
Not sure if it's intentional, but 5 + 3 equals 8-maybe there's a subtle connection there.
One thing is certain, we'll likely see plenty of number 53 jerseys in the Bell Centre stands next season.
At 25 years old, Noah Dobson is a mobile right-shot defenseman, standing 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He tallied 39 points in 71 games this season with the Islanders.
Last season, he recorded 70 points in 79 games.
He will become the eighth player in Montreal Canadiens history to wear this jersey number.
"Noah Dobson will become the eighth player in Canadiens history to wear number 53 after André Racicot (1990), Rory Fitzpatrick (1996-1997), Sylvain Blouin (1999-2003), Doug Janik (2009), Ryan White (2010-2014), Lucas Lessio (2016-2019), and Victor Mete (2018-2021)."
