A bit earlier today, the Montreal Canadiens announced that reinforcements are arriving for Martin St-Louis' squad.
We wanted to provide you with a bit more information on that.
First of all, note that 5-foot-10 defenseman
Marc Del Gaizo has been called up by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.
"The Canadiens have recalled defenseman Marc Del Gaizo from the Laval Rocket."
- Montreal Canadiens
Details regarding the call-up of Marc Del Gaizo by the Montreal Canadiens on defense
TVA Sports journalist Nicolas Cloutier mentioned that Kent Hughes and the Habs simply wanted to bring along a healthy seventh defenseman to Newark.
"7th defenseman for the trip to Newark" - Cloutier
So this doesn't seem to indicate any bad news coming for one of the other Canadiens defensemen.
Marco D'Amico also added the following:
"The Montreal Canadiens are off to New Jersey in the next 24 hours for a game against the Devils.
Del Gaizo, like during the Canadiens' road trip, is called up for insurance purposes.
Of note, the Laval Rocket don't play until Friday vs Hartford."
- D'Amico
Finally, why Del Gaizo and not Engstrom or Reinbacher?
"The Canadiens don't want to bother the development of their young defencemen at the moment. They strongly believe consistency and lots of playing time is more important for them."
- Marco D'Amico
