One of the weaknesses of the Montreal Canadiens organization in recent years has certainly been amateur scouting. The Marc Bergevin era, supported by Trevor Timmins, did not yield great results.

It was therefore normal to see the Habs as one of the organizations with the thinnest prospect pool in the league.
However, that has changed significantly, as Steven Ellis points out, and the Montreal organization is now one of the best in this regard.

A "ridiculous" prospect pool

He means it in the best way possible, stating that the future is incredibly bright for fans of the team.
"Seriously, the Canadiens have so much potential in their lineup.

It's ridiculous."

- Steven Ellis

For his rankings, Ellis defines a prospect as a player who has played fewer than 50 NHL games and is under the age of 23.
With that in mind, it's no surprise that Ivan Demidov tops the Canadiens' prospect rankings.
He's followed by Jacob Fowler and David Reinbacher.
To prove how strong the club's pool is, just look at the 10th-ranked player: Adam Engström.
According to Ellis, the Swedish defenseman would be the top blueline prospect in many NHL organizations.
"For many teams, Engström would be their best defense prospect."

- Steven Ellis

Adam Engström is another successful acquisition by Kent Hughes and the Habs.
It's pretty wild, because in the ranking he's only the second-best defenseman in the organization, behind David Reinbacher.
And he would certainly be behind Logan Mailloux if he hadn't been traded..
The takeaway is clear.
According to Ellis, Montreal is one of the only teams in the league to have a legitimate top prospect at forward, defense, and goaltending.
The only weak spot, in his opinion, is at left defense.
Aside from Engström, the talent at that position in the organization isn't great, with players like Rasmus Bergqvist, William Trudeau, and Luke Mittelstadt.
Here is the full ranking:
1 - Ivan Demidov
2 - Jacob Fowler
3 - David Reinbacher
4 - Michael Hage
5 - Alexander Zharovsky
6 - Oliver Kapanen
7 - Owen Beck
8 - Joshua Roy
9 - Jakub Dobes
10 - Adam Engström
