Is anyone able to name a worst first pick overall of the last 25 years than Patrik Stefan?
If we're talking about Stefan, it's because of the current date. The one who was selected first overall in the 1999 draft by the Atlanta Thrashers played 455 games in the NHL, where he collected 188 points.
He had his best campaign in 2004-05, thanks to a 40-point season, including 14 goals. Nothing to point to, let's face it!
The feat of his career will forever remain a sequence, while he found himself in a breakaway in front of an empty net. At the time, he wore the colours of the Dallas Stars and it happened on January 4, 2007.
Here again this famous sequence, which marked people's imagination since the score was 5-4 in favor of the Stars and Ales Hemsky scored the tying goal just seconds from the end. Luckily, the Stars won in the shootout:
I remind you that it happened on January 4, 2007, during his last year in the NHL. He capped his course with a total of 11 points in 41 games, then headed to Switzerland, where he played three games.
