Before leaving for California, Phillip Danault had a dialogue with Tyler Toffoli, now his former teammate, to make sure that the city and the organization were a good fit for him. The former number 24 was about to sign the bottom of a six-year, $33 million contract, so he had to make sure he got the right deal.
It was on a podcast (All the Kings men podcast) covering the Los Angeles Kings that Danault opened up about this... Obviously, Toffoli, who was drafted by this franchise with whom he had 290 points in 515 games (8 years) and lifted a Stanley Cup, could not disparage this franchise. So he said what a great place it was to live and play hockey.
No, but what hockey player doesn't dream of walking out of an arena in their gowns, especially when the place is recognized by the players who played there? All in all, Toffoli was honest with the former number 24 of the Red, White and Blue, when he could have described the Kings and L.A. so that Danault would not opt for this avenue... and return to the Montreal Canadiens. No matter, Danault was already looking elsewhere as soon as after the loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
I remind you that Tyler Toffoli's main home is still in Los Angeles, he spends his summers there. He trains in the Kings' complex during the summer seasons, while attending a ton of Los Angeles Dodgers' games since he has developed a great friendship with third baseman Justin Turner. The wives of the two athletes are inseparable. In short, Toffoli loves his Canadian team, but he will never forget Los Angeles.
