Having signed a professional trial contract with the Providence Bruins on Thursday, Rask was scheduled to return to the game in the last few days, after a long absence due to hip surgery this summer.
The Bruins AHL affiliate games scheduled for Friday and Sunday against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms were postponed due to COVID-19 outbreaks in the Phantoms, which Cassidy said might precipitate Rask's return with the big club.
"To be honest, I don't know when he's going to play", argued Cassidy on Saturday. "I can't give a definitive plan right now. He is training, and we will try to give him some playing time when we can. He may have to start games here and miss a few assignments in Providence.»
The Bruins will begin a seven-game straight home run on Wednesday against the Canadiens, so a decision should be made in due course. Rask, 34, played fourteen seasons in Boston for a total of 560 games and 306 regular season wins, a record in Bruins history.
Last season, Rask took part in 24 games, a 15-5-2 record, and helped his team make it to the second round of the playoffs.
