In a press conference yesterday following the trade involving Jeff Petry, Montreal Canadiens' General Manager Kent Hughes addressed an important matter regarding goaltender Casey DeSmith.
Forget About the Idea of Seeing DeSmith with the Laval Rocket
Hughes answered questions regarding his transaction with the Detroit Red Wings, but he was also asked about a potential upcoming trade involving a goaltender.
He took the opportunity to resolve a situation.
Casey DeSmith will not be placed on waivers or sent to the American Hockey League (AHL). That is not the plan at all, and a trade is to be expected.
"However, Hughes made it clear to DeSmith: the plan is not to send him to the AHL. In one way or another, he believes he can address the congestion in front of the net without having to send DeSmith, who is waiver-eligible, to Laval.
In my view, it still comes down to a decision between DeSmith and Allen. I don't see Montembeault being traded, and trading Cayden Primeau wouldn't solve much."
