His acquisition from the St. Louis Blues was a steal, and the trade was officially completed a few days ago.
Why? A 2022 draft pick was involved and it became a reality two weeks ago on day two of the draft at the Bell Centre.
While many observers are wondering about Jake Allen's future in Montreal, he has been a frequent topic of trade rumors, but the verdict seems to be in:
On the other hand, if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton ever change their minds and decide to trade him, they will have a very interesting return, that's for sure. (especially when you consider what he cost to acquire from St-Louis)
At 31 years old, Jake Allen played 35 games for the Montreal Canadiens (in 2021-22), he maintained a goals-against-average of 3.30, a 0.905% efficiency rate and a 9-20-4 record.
He was effectively acquired by the CH on September 2, 2020 in exchange for:
- 2020 third round pick (Dylan Peterson)- Seventh round pick in 2020 (Chase Bradley).
So Allen cost Peterson and Bradley, in the end. We're talking about two players who don't seem to be on track to ever play in the NHL.
However, there is an interesting detail. There is more to this trade.
In addition to Jake Allen, Marc Bergevin (the GM who made the trade) managed to add a 7th round pick in 2022 in the same transaction.
This famous pick became the 216th overall pick in 2022, which became:
A good young Quebec defenseman, who was acquired here by the Habs.
Tourigny, 20, is a purely offensive right back who put up a solid 80 points, including 31 goals in 65 QMJHL games, in 2021-22.
He is also the only Quebec Major Junior Hockey League prospect to be drafted by the Habs in the 2022 draft.
We could possibly see him play with the Laval Rocket, as early as next season and especially, he seems to be a better prospect than Dylan Peterson and Chase Bradley.
A great move by Marc Bergevin, who finally concluded this transaction with St-Louis:
TO MTL - Jake Allen + Miguel Tourigny
TO THE BLUES - Dylan Peterson and Chase Bradley
Solid!
