During his recent press conference, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Samuel Montembeault confirmed a major rumor that has been circulating for a few days.

He confirmed that talks are indeed currently taking place with Kent Hughes for a contract extension between him and the Canadiens.

Good news!

"Sam Montembeault says that nothing is necessarily immediately imminent for a contract extension, but he confirms that talks are underway and he hopes to sign."

Montembeault has been very consistent on this point and has never hidden it. He wants to re-sign here, loves Montreal, and hopes it will be resolved soon.

It seems that the caution in this matter is more on the side of Kent Hughes and the Canadiens. They want to make sure they make the right decision and not overpay, apparently.
