According to various sources, such as Mark Kiszla (Fort Morgan Times) and Stephen Whyno (Associated Press), the Colorado Avalanche could possibly be open to trading Girard at this time.
Why? The reason is simple.
Colorado would really like to be able to sign forward Nazem Kadri, who was a key part of their recent Stanley Cup win.
Of course, to do that, they need to free up some money under the salary cap. Girard, 24, is a solid top-4 defenseman and earns $5 million per season for another five years.
Really interesting. And it fits perfectly with what Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) was reporting, who said that Kadri is currently waiting for a team to "make room on their mass" before signing with them. Is it the Avalanche?
To be continued...
Do you think the Colorado Avalanche general manager will decide to trade Samuel Girard, in order to sign Nazem Kadri?
Girard, a 24 year old native of Roberval, is a 5'10" defenseman with 28 points in 67 games last year (and 32 points in 48 games in 2020-21).
Kadri, 31, has 87 points in 71 games this season (and 15 points in 16 playoff games)
Which one would you choose, instead of the Avalanche?
In any case, as soon as Nazem Kadri signs somewhere other than Colorado, if it happens, we can forget about any rumors involving Girard.
