According to insider Frank Seravalli, the Edmonton Oilers are close to trading their young forward Jesse Puljujarvi.
Puljujarvi earns $3 million per season, but his contract expires this summer. He will be a restricted free agent.
According to Seravalli, the teams interested in the Finn are the Florida Panthers, the St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Montreal Canadiens would also be in the running:
Why should Puljujarvi be traded by Edmonton?
For a simple reason. When young Kailer Yamamoto returns to the game, the Oilers will absolutely have to get back under the NHL salary cap, and Puljujarvi would be the one to bail out.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has even raised the possibility that Puljujarvi could simply be traded by Edmonton, like Eeli Tolvanen and the Preds earlier this season.
In 49 games this season, the 4th overall pick in 2016 has 10 points. In 65 games last season, Puljujarvi had 14 goals and 36 points.
