Official declaration from the Montreal Canadiens concerning Samuel Montembeault
In the last few hours, the Montreal Canadiens have released a statement via their official page to talk about their goaltender Samuel Montembeault.
It's really interesting!
We learn, among other things, that Montembeault couldn't be happier anywhere else but in Montreal and that he absolutely wants to stay here with the Canadiens.
We love it.
This bodes well, as we can see in this statement:
"The fourth-year goalie has let his game speak for itself. Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes supported him, stating, 'We want to keep him' during his mid-season report on January 18. 'Sam is not going anywhere.'"
But it wasn't always the case, as mentioned by the Habs:
"Let's go back to October 2, 2021, when the Canadiens announced that the team had claimed Montembeault off waivers.
This move was made primarily due to Carey Price's uncertain status and not to acquire a new player who would join the team from his home province.
The general consensus was that the Quebec goalie had been acquired as an insurance policy to fill a spot on the roster until the franchise goaltender could return to the game. [...]
Since then, Price, sidelined due to injury, has played only five games for the Canadiens.
As for Montembeault, he has found himself in net for 78 games.
'He still has a lot of experience to gain as a goalie, but we see his potential,' Hughes emphasized in mid-January." What a beautiful story! To see the Canadiens' official post about Montembeault, click here, and we highly recommend reading it in full.
