The Colorado Avalanche are officially Stanley Cup champions after putting the finishing touches on their third title in franchise history with a 2-1 victory Sunday night over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

This consecration saw a new, and absurd, record for the Colorado Avalanche players, as the famous trophy was damaged before it even reached the club's locker room. Avalanche forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel dropped the Stanley Cup while posing it on the ice for the traditional team photo, denting the lower ring in the process.

That's all it took for the NHL to respond, at the hands of famed Cup goalie Philip Pritchard.

"I don't even know if they've had it five minutes and there's already a gap in the bottom. Right in the middle of the team photo. I guess that's a new record today. Five minutes into the presentation, it happened. That's the first time that's ever happened on the ice." - Philip Pritchard

Of course, this isn't the first time the Cup has needed repair. It has suffered damage on numerous occasions. We don't have to go far back in time when last year the Lightning were not kind to the precious trophy.
