Why? Bowness himself has come out publicly to offer to become an assistant coach to Martin St-Louis, to help him in his new role.
The veteran coach would have been quite happy in an assistant role in Montreal (according to his own words) and would have seen himself alongside Martin St-Louis.
In the end, it won't happen. We can cross this name off the list of potential replacements for Luke Richardson (although in the case of Bowness, some saw him with the CH, even before Richardson's departure)
A NEW JOB FOR RICK BOWNESS
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Jets have just hired veteran Rick Bowness, who is known for his defensive mindset, to be the new head coach in Winnipeg.
Prior to being let go, he was the head coach of the Dallas Stars (since 2019).
Interesting fact: This is a return to his roots for Bowness, who was an assistant coach with the Jets from 1984 to 1987. Wow!
He's actually been coaching, in the NHL, since 1984. When you talk about a veteran, he's a real one!
More details to follow!
