Despite the hiring of forwards Mike Hoffman, Cedric Paquette, Mathieu Perreault, and defensemen David Savard and Chris Wideman, Marc Bergevin is still very active on the market. In fact, according to the latest rumours, the Canadiens' general manager is in advanced discussions with his Islanders counterpart, Lou Lamoriello.
The Islanders still have three restricted free agents to re-sign: forward Anthony Beauvillier, goaltender Ilya Sorokin and defenseman Adam Pelech. The latter has appealed to the arbitration process, as his salary demands (approximately $7 million per season, according to the latest rumours) would be much higher than his team's offer.
Could Quebecer Anthony Beauvillier be part of the discussions between Bergevin and Lamoriello? It would be very plausible, considering that trade rumours have already linked him to the Habs in the last few weeks.
In short, all of this remains speculation for now. It will be interesting to see if these discussions will come to fruition, or if it will remain at the negotiation stage.
