Since the end of the 2021-22 season, the Boston Bruins have been in a state of flux and their future looks less rosy, less promising.
Many fans (and even some players, obviously) seem to be pointing the finger at GM Don Sweeney, who took everyone by surprise by firing head coach Bruce Cassidy.
Since then, big rumors have surfaced that David Pastrnak may want to leave Boston (because of Sweeney). Other journalists believe that Patrice Bergeron may follow Cassidy.
In short, it's all very exciting in Boston.
One of them is Bruins reporter Pete Blackburn, who really believes that the Bruins should have hired Jeff Gorton, while he was still available.
"The Bruins really should have hired Jeff Gorton a year ago. They should have put him in a position between Neely and Sweeney. That would have been a smart voice, a bright veteran, with a solid track record of trading. If things hadn't worked out, Cam could have bought himself more ballast by firing Sweeney and giving the reins to Gorton"
Another popular Bruins reporter, Ian McLaren, agrees 100%. The Bruins should never have passed up Gorton.
According to what he explained, in an interview over the weekend, many in the Boston organization would agree.
Unfortunately for them, he is now with the Montreal Canadiens, and we are really looking forward to seeing him in action this summer with Kent Hughes.
