On Tuesday night, we were able to witness an interminable game 1 in the series opposing the New York Rangers to the Pitsburgh Penguins. It was Evgeni Malkin who finally managed to close the debate in the third overtime period.
An unusual situation occurred in the second overtime period. Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith went to the bench before returning to the dressing room. Pens backup goalie Louis Domingue had no choice but to jump on the ice after watching the first four and a half periods from the bench.
When asked about the situation after the game, the Quebecer admitted that he thought it was a joke. However, he quickly realized that he had to take the net for his team.
Another funny thing, Domingue admitted after the game that he had eaten a whole meal between the first and second overtime periods. He must have regretted his choice of food once he got on the ice...
"Spicy pork and broccoli, not the best..." - Louis Domingue
With the injury to Tristan Jarry and the recent injury to Casey DeSmith, the Quebecer may finally have a chance to make his mark in an important moment. Let's hope he can prove his worth and, like Matt Murray once did in Pittsburgh, steal the net and win the cup!
