Last-minute official statement from the Montreal Canadiens regarding Cole Caufield
As the buzz around Matvei Michkov grows and talk of his potential slide in the draft due to red flags intensifies, the Montreal Canadiens organization has highlighted a significant event in its recent history.
Four years ago, the organization drafted none other than Cole Caufield!
Now, the goal here isn't to draw too many dubious links between Caufield and Michkov, but let's just note that Caufield had slid a lot in the first round back then because of a red flag raised by several organizations.
Caufield was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and it was only for this reason that he was still available at the Canadiens' 15th overall pick.
Otherwise, he would have been a top-5 overall pick.
In Michkov's case, his red flag is his contract in the KHL (and his nationality).
Let's just say that the risk taken by the Canadiens in 2019 by drafting Caufield paid off and then some.
Let's hope they do the same with Michkov.
Alright, let's end the parallels between Michkov and Caufield. We just wanted to mark the anniversary of Caufield's selection today.
