We told you about it earlier today, but Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes was interviewed yesterday on 98.5 Sports with Mario Langlois.
He revealed the following:
As transparent as ever! In addition, Hughes made a surprise statement about his goaltenders.
As Marco Normandin reports, the CH general manager mentioned this:
"I think there is still a battle for the number one spot. Cayden Primeau will be part of the battle, along with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault. For sure he's younger. We want to put him in a context where he can continue to develop."
- Kent Hughes Interesting! Okay, you have to take this with a grain of salt, and we understand that the chances of Jake Allen being the number one are excellent, but it's definitely a surprising statement.
An interesting battle ahead
Still, Hughes makes it clear that the identity of the Montreal Canadiens' number one goalie is not yet determined, that there will be a battle in training camp, and that Cayden Primeau will have a chance to win the job as will Samuel Montembeault.
Kent Hughes goes even further, adding that the CH could actually split the job 50-50, between its goalies. This will be something to watch over the next few days.
We insist. We absolutely expect Jake Allen to be the starter, but it's still an intriguing statement, coming from the GM.
