Mainly thanks to the performances of the young Cayden Primeau, and following recent comments by Kent Hughes, many believed that Jake Allen would have been traded yesterday, just before the roster freeze.

Ultimately, even if GM Hughes showed a willingness to end his goalie trio before Christmas, that will not be the case.

Transactions are now frozen in the NHL, and Allen is still a member of the CH.

As Marco Normandin mentions, Hughes has made his choice and he decided to give a reprieve to Jake Allen.

He didn't force anything and we can't blame him for that.

It seems inevitable that the CH will eventually move forward with a duo of Samuel Montembeault (as #1) and Cayden Primeau, but that will have to wait.

Despite what the CH said at the beginning of the season, we therefore have three goalies on the roster at Christmas!

We know there have been discussions for a trade, negotiations as mentioned by David Pagnotta, but no conclusion for the moment.

Since midnight, it is now forbidden for all NHL teams to trade, for the entire holiday period

Despite the numerous injuries of goalies in contending teams, apparently, none of them wanted to pay the price to bring Allen in as reinforcement. (and they should)

In short, it could change after the Holidays, certainly, but it's a short-term resolved issue.

«The NHL's holiday roster freeze is now in effect for all teams. It applies until 00:01 on Thursday, December 28.

No trades, waivers, or loans (except under certain emergency conditions).»
