This year is the last season under contract for Jonathan Drouin. The Quebecer could enjoy a fresh start following surgery, with a new head coach, to revive his career and give another team reason to give him a new deal afterwards.
Unfortunately for him, his summer conditioning was not adequate and his start to the season was disappointing, as evidenced by his four assists in 12 games before his injury.
The CapFriendly site came out with a very interesting, but very lackluster statistic regarding the highest paid players in the NHL who still haven't found the back of the net this season. Jonathan came out in third place, behind Teuvo Teravainen and Milan Lucic.
Milan Lucic has slowed down a lot and his role is no longer to put points on the board since a long time, but he brings a physical dimension that Jo cannot bring. If Drouin doesn't produce, his usefulness is drastically diminished.
Hopefully Martin St-Louis will be able to help him get back on track when he returns from injury, otherwise the rest of his career may not be in the NHL.
