As you obviously know, Calgary Flames fans were slapped in the face this summer when their favorite team lost Johnny Gaudreau, without receiving anything in return.
There was a lot of disappointment, and "Johnny Hockey's" own parents just added to it.
This summer, there were many reports that Gaudreau signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets for less money than the Flames were offering.
Why? The parents of the main interested party gave the answer and it is really embarrassing for Calgary.
As my colleague Wilson Salaun reports, Johnny Gaudreau's parents said their son was ready and willing to extend with the Flames last summer. However, the club reportedly made an offer that was completely off the mark.
"Last summer, if the Flames had offered something close to [his value], Johnny said, "I would have been in Calgary for the next eight years, it wouldn't have been a problem." The Flames offered him a contract, but it wasn't even close to his value... It was a joke. He was really, really embarrassed."
