The 2022-23 National Hockey League season will begin in two weeks, and over the next few days, the various organizations will have to make some big decisions to assemble their final rosters.
As for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, despite having mentioned publicly that they wanted to add a right-handed defenseman, there has still been no move in this direction.
However, that could change soon.
There will be a lot of movement in the next two weeks and we will have to be careful, especially on waivers.
Let's not forget that because of their position in the standings last season, the Montreal Canadiens have the absolute priority to claim players in waivers (until November 1st).
Over the next few days, there will be a long list of players placed on waivers, and the Tricolore will have the first pick overall, if you will.
As Marco Normandin mentions and as Darren Dreger (TSN) reports, between now and October 10, Habs fans will need to keep a close eye on the waiver wire, because due to this year's very tight salary cap, many general managers are having payroll issues, and thus, could place some surprise names on waivers.
"The CH will have first dibs until Nov. 1 and could well use it to add a defenseman.
Darren Dreger just mentioned that there will be some surprising names in there... hoping it's not just players with outsized contracts!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
Some nice surprises possible.
"You're going to (soon) see some names that will be very surprising." - Darren Dreger, reputable TSN tipster
Dreger does add that "surprising players" will be placed soon, according to his sources. So that means Kent Hughes could possibly acquire one of those "surprise players" for free.
To be followed with great attention!
