In the last few hours, the always interesting Dan Kramer published his prediction of the Montreal Canadiens' lineup to start the 2022-23 season.
Kramer is an expert who covers (and has covered) the Montreal Canadiens for TSN, Habs EOTP, AllHabs and McKeensHockey.
"As of today, I'd roll those threes for the Canadiens, to start. If Slafkovsky can't keep up, then try Dadonov on the first trio and add Pitlick to the Dvorak line.
Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Drouin-Dach-Anderson
Dadonov-Dvorak-Gallagher
Armia-Evans-Hoffman
Dvo's line can get the tougher assignments."
Do you like the idea?
See what Marco D'Amico thinks about it:
"You wouldn't be doing this first trio any favors, in my opinion.
Eventually? Of course.
As soon as the camp is over? Unrealistic.
I can't remember the last time a 1st overall pick started the season with first line minutes.
Typically, they have to work and earn their way up the lineup as the months and seasons go by."
Kramer then responded that he believes Suzuki and Caufield work as a duo. So that takes a lot of pressure off the third member of their line.
Slafkovsky (initially) would just have to use his size to help make room for his smaller linemates. (Also according to Kramer) The latter concluded by admitting that it's a starting idea, but that he'd be just as happy if Slaf debuted in the American Hockey League, with the Laval Rocket.
It will be really interesting to watch! What do you think the Habs' lineup should be to start the year? Where should Slafkovsky start?
Recall Kramer's suggestion:
Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Drouin-Dach-Anderson
Dadonov-Dvorak-Gallagher
Armia-Evans-Hoffman
