It must be said that the Quebecer have not had many opportunities since joining the New York Rangers. The native of Saint-Eustache evolves more often than not on the third trio of his own and gets little time on the power play.
Earlier this week, Émilie Castonguay, who represented Lafrenière as his agent, was offered the position of Assistant General Manager at the Vancouver Canucks.
As you can see, journalist Larry Brooks linked the name of the 20-year-old to the Canucks. The question, though, is whether the Rangers have ever thrown the towel on Lafrenière.
An exchange involving the former Rimouski Oceanic and a player like J.T. Miller as well as a draft pick for example could be excellent for both teams.
It would be surprising, however, to see the Rangers compromise their former first choice in total. Lafrenière dominated in the QMJHL and patience seems to be the order of the day.
If the phone rings for Quebecers, Rangers General Manager Chris Drury will certainly listen to the offers and unless he receives an exceptional one, Lafrenière will remain in New York.
