Controversial statement on a possible major trade involving Lane Hutson and the Jets
During the last minutes on the airwaves of BPM Sports, host and former Montreal Canadien, Georges Laraque, made a statement that is causing quite a reaction on social media.
A trade involving Hutson and Dubois, between the Canadiens and the Jets?
See a summary of his discussion with Max Truman:
Laraque's response:
"Hutson against Dubois, yes! Hutson-Dubois, I'd do it. Dubois is 24 years old. [...] You have a surplus of defensemen. You don't have Dubois. I'd do it."
He later added that he would only do it if it comes with a long-term contract for Dubois in Montreal, and he mentions that there is no proof that Hutson's success will translate to the NHL.
However, his colleague Truman disagrees and would not trade Lane Hutson for Pierre-Luc Dubois, and we agree with him.
The risk of making another mistake, like the trades involving Ryan McDonagh and Mikhail Sergachev, is far too great.
Imagine if Hutson becomes an Adam Fox or a Quinn Hughes!
Moreover, we know very well that the CH could have the opportunity to acquire Dubois completely for free, via the NHL free agent market.
So, why trade a highly promising young player like Hutson?
Do you agree with Laraque? Would you make that trade?
Dubois, 24 years old and the 3rd overall pick in 2016, has accumulated 56 points (24 goals) in 64 games this season.
Hutson, 19 years old and the 62nd overall pick in 2022, has an incredible 47 points (14 goals) in 36 games this season in the NCAA. According to some, he is the top prospect for the Montreal Canadiens.
