In an effort to make the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League a more unifying league and reflective of its transformation over the years, the "Major" in its name would give way to "Maritimes", thus preserving the LHJMQ acronym.

During today's Assembly of Members, the QMJHL passed a resolution to officially change the League's name from Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
