Announcement imminent: the rumor is confirmed for Patrick Roy
The rumor has been circulating for several weeks now, particularly since his Memorial Cup win in 2023, but it's about to be confirmed for Patrick Roy.
The former head coach of the Quebec Remparts is set to be honored at Place Jean-Béliveau soon.
This is no small feat! He would join names such as Jean Béliveau, Guy Lafleur, Réal Cloutier, Joe Malone, and the Stastny brothers.
See what Quebec City's mayor, Bruno Marchand, just declared on this subject.
"I am very sensitive to this, and Jacques had spoken to me about it. The significance that Patrick Roy has had throughout his career and his importance to Quebec is something to evaluate. [...] Can anyone contest this? I won't be the one to contest it. He deserves his place. Others are there and are extraordinary, but are even beneath Patrick." - Bruno Marchand
Sources suggest that an announcement to this effect would be imminent, unsurprisingly.
And that's not all. In addition to these honors for Roy, another matter we are closely monitoring is his possible return to the NHL.
According to many, the new big boss of the Ottawa Senators, Michael Andlauer, is a huge fan of Roy. He was reportedly one of the reasons why Roy was a serious candidate for the Montreal Canadiens during the hiring of Kent Hughes.
Andlauer recently stated that it would be good for Ottawa to have a bilingual head coach (like Patrick Roy, interestingly) to reach out to the people of Gatineau, among others.
As the Sens have very high ambitions for this season, don't be surprised if DJ Smith is let go if the team doesn't perform better than last season.
And if that happens, don't be surprised if Roy replaces him.
Story to follow.
