As you obviously know, after spending nearly nine years in Montreal, defenseman Jeff Petry was recently traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

BRUNET SPEAKS OUT
In an interesting appearance on 98.5 Sports yesterday, Benoit Brunet commented on the veteran defenseman's departure and he had a lot to say, especially regarding the atmosphere in the team's locker room:
"I'm very happy that Jeff Petry is no longer here. No more distraction... Me, I'm very disappointed in that. A guy who signs a $6.5 million (per year) contract, he talked to his wife about it.

It doesn't matter COVID, not COVID, when you put your signature... That's my philosophy and that's the philosophy of a lot of guys who played in the 1970s..." - Benoit Brunet

He doesn't seem to appreciate the fact that Petry has obviously "changed his mind" about his love for his life in Montreal and Quebec.
Brunet thinks it's bad form to sign a long-term contract somewhere, only to ask for a trade a few months later:
"When you sign, unless you have a problem with a coach, which is what probably happened with Ducharme... But even with Martin St-Louis, he didn't want to stay in Montreal. At some point, it becomes unbearable at the locker room level." - Benoît Brunet

Do you agree with him?
It's an interesting argument, especially when compared to a player like Patrice Bergeron, who remains 100% loyal and faithful to his organization (the Boston Bruins).
In any case, it's definitely one less distraction in the locker room.
