When Marc Bergevin signed forward Alexander Radulov to a one-year contract when the free-agent market opened in 2016, many Canadiens fans were thrilled with the signing and he quickly became a favorite at the Bell Centre with 54 points in 76 games.
But after only one season in Montreal, Radulov had signed a lucrative five-year contract with the Dallas Stars. After two 72-point seasons, the CH veteran's production began to decline and this year he has only 22 points, including only four goals in 68 games.
According to Russian daily Sport Express, KHL team Ak Bars is reportedly close to signing him to a contract for the upcoming season. The Stars forward, who previously played in the KHL with Ufa's Salavat Yulayev and also CSKA Moscow, may be ending his career back home in Russia.
Radulov was a first round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2004 and after playing two seasons in Nashville, he had left for the KHL in 2008, only to return very briefly in the spring of 2012. He previously won the Gagarin Cup, the KHL equivalent of the Stanley Cup, with Ufa Salavat Yulayev in 2011.
