Teams like the New York Rangers, the St. Louis Blues and, now, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in touch with Kent Hughes to discuss a potential trade.
With the Montreal team's recent success under Martin St-Louis, few people have discussed the possibility of Chiarot staying with the team and that Kent Hughes could offer him a contract extension.
Stéphane Waite, the former goalie coach for the Habs, spoke with Mario Langlois about this possibility on the show Les amateurs de sports< /i> on the airwaves of 98.5.
Waite considers him a defenseman to keep in Montreal for two reasons: his toughness and his leadership in the locker room.
His presence could also be very beneficial for the young defensemen of the organization, one can immediately think of the young Kaiden Guhle, for whom Chiarot would be an excellent mentor.
However, Waite said this :
Wow! Surprising information. The Habs haven't even inquired about the price to extend Chiarot's contract, so they don't seem to be considering this option at all. That says a lot about Ben Chiarot's future in Montreal.
We know that Chiarot has excellent value as a rental player and that Kent Hughes would be able to get a first-round pick or a quality prospect in return for the defenseman.
