Last night, Ben Chiarot (almost) saved the Habs' honor, scoring the team's only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. It was the fifth goal of the season for this defenseman who is having a more than respectable season under the circumstances.

However, he could be traded before the March 21 trade deadline, which would attract attention from all over the National Hockey League.

After all, the Habs' number 8 has very little chance of being back with the organization next year, as this is the last year of a three-year contract, so there is no doubt that the Tricolore will want to take advantage of this opportunity to get the biggest return possible.

In this regard, several insiders are reporting that Ben Chiarot could be worth at least a first round pick, or a second round pick with a prospect. This value would be due in large part to Chiarot's performance during the Habs' last playoff run.

Many teams that believe in their chances of repeating such a run would be very interested in acquiring the services of the veteran defenseman, and as the David Savard trade to the Lightning demonstrated last year, teams are sometimes willing to give a lot to improve as the playoffs approach.

This is an opportunity that the Habs will have to take advantage of in order to fill their bank of picks and prospects.
