Matthew Tkachuk grieves the passing of good friend Johnny Gaudreau: he is not doing well
Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk channeled his inner Alex Ovechkin this summer, and let's just say he celebrated his Stanley Cup win in style.
He certainly had every reason to, as it's obviously a massive achievement.
However, his summer of celebrations came to an abrupt and tragic end on August 29th, when he was completely shaken by the passing of his friend Johnny Gaudreau.
Johnny Gaudreau's death still weighs heavily on Matthew Tkachuk
He's struggling to cope with it, and he confided in Pittsburgh journalist Josh Yohe on the matter.
One can't even begin to imagine the pain of losing a close friend so suddenly.
Matthew Tkachuk is going through a tough time these days. A summer of celebrating with the Stanley Cup came to an abrupt end when he lost his friend and former linemate, Johnny Gaudreau. They had planned to reunite at the Olympics with Team USA. I spoke with the very candid Tkachuk.
Matthew Tkachuk's dream summer suddenly turned into a nightmare.

Let's not forget that Tkachuk and Gaudreau notably played together with the Calgary Flames.
Here are some excerpts from Tkachuk's statements:
I want to keep his memory very much alive. [...] This was supposed to be the best summer of my life, and I have some wonderful memories from the past few months, but at the end of this incredible summer, the unimaginable happened.
Ever since I left Calgary and moved to Florida, all I've done is tell stories about Johnny. I was always talking about him. I hated being away from him, and we were always in touch.
We were so excited to play together again
- Matthew Tkachuk
The journalist adds that Matthew Tkachuk isn't looking for anyone's pity. He just misses his friend immensely.
I know I'm lucky and that I have a good life, I'm a professional hockey player, but I won't lie to you-the past few weeks have been extremely, extremely, extremely tough... I still can't believe it. It's just so sad. All of it.
- Matthew Tkachuk
We highly recommend reading the full article.
Once again, we sincerely wish all the best to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau's loved ones. Even though there has been less talk about it in recent days, it doesn't take away from the immense pain they've been enduring for almost a month now.
They will need all the support they can get.
