We just learned that Connor McDavid was playing with a serious injury
The Edmonton Oilers' star forward, Connor McDavid, the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy, was playing with a significant injury in the Stanley Cup Final.
According to Zach Laing and his network's findings, McDavid was indeed playing with a serious abdominal injury against the Florida Panthers. Ouch.
"McDavid was playing through an abdominal injury that will apparently require surgery, while Leon Draisaitl was also injured, according to what I've been told.
In Draisaitl's case, it was a fractured rib and a finger injury." Clearly, the two Oilers' star players were really banged up in this Stanley Cup Final series, especially for last night's Game 7.
Serious injuries for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl
Evidently, this long playoff run has taken its toll on the Oilers' best players, as we still await the official details from the organization.
Notably, will McDavid indeed undergo surgery? That would be major news.
"The war of attrition took its toll on the Oilers. Head coach Kris Knoblauch didn't divulge any information Monday night after the loss, but both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have been playing through significant injuries, Oilers Nation has learned. McDavid has played through an abdominal injury that likely requires surgery, while Draisaitl has been banged up too, I've been told. He's believed to be dealing with a broken rib and finger. It's nothing new for a laundry list of players to be dealing with injuries after deep playoff runs, and surely we'll hear of more in the coming days." - Oilers Nation
Details to follow.
Connor McDavid, 27, amassed 42 points in 23 games during the 2024 playoffs, including 11 points in 7 games in the Stanley Cup Final.
Leon Draisaitl, 28, amassed 30 points in 23 games during the 2024 playoffs, including 3 points in 7 games in the Stanley Cup Final.
Clearly, they were severely hampered against the Panthers.
As for McDavid, it did not prevent him from being named the best player of the playoffs.
